Some conditions must be considered for successful paint application. The surface to be painted must be properly prepared and clean. The required thickness should be applied.
The painted area should be dried in a suitable temperature, away from dust. The most commonly used dyeing methods are as follows.
1. Spraying
2. Do not apply with a brush
3. Application with a roller
The paint can be applied by different methods. Choosing which method depends on the type of paint and environmental conditions. Each method has its pros and cons.
Spray (gun) painting method.
A. The spray application method is a simple and quick method. This method is widely used in industrial paints.
B. There is no problem such as leaving a brush mark during spray application. At this time, a problem called orange peel may arise. The reason for this problem is:
– Not having the normal viscosity of the paint
– Fast evaporating solvent combination in paint
– Too much distance between the painting area and the gun.
3. These three factors should be corrected in order to prevent orangeness.
4. During manual spraying, it is necessary to pay attention to the creation of a paint layer of the same thickness. Therefore, it is necessary to use automatic spraying devices.
5. It is possible to get a better paint layer than both brush and roller by spraying method. Spraying devices are also divided into two parts, airless and airless.
6. Application of paint by air spraying – Paint is sprayed from a gun in the form of powder onto the metal surface with pressurized air. Thus, a normal paint layer of any thickness is obtained. However, approximately 30-40% of the paint is lost during this process. This loss varies with wind speed and metal shape.
7. Airless spray painting method – The paint material is sprayed through a thin hole with a very high pressure. Thus, the paint particles adhere to the metal surface in very small pieces. With this method, a thick film layer can be obtained in a short time. However, the operation should be performed by a specialist. Airless paint application has the following advantages:
* Because the paint is sprayed onto the surface under pressure, it adheres slowly.
* A thicker paint layer can also be achieved in one coat.
